Kakobuy is a real, operating shopping agent. It is not a shop and it does not manufacture anything. You give it a link to an item on Taobao, Weidian or 1688; it buys that item, receives it into its warehouse in China, photographs it, holds it until you are ready, then ships a consolidated parcel to you. It takes a service fee for that.
That distinction is the whole answer to "is it legit", because it relocates the risk. An agent that reliably buys, stores and ships is doing its job even when the thing in the box is disappointing — the seller chose what went in it, and the seller is who you actually bought from.
What can be verified, and what cannot

- Shipping cost a surprise. Parcels are billed on volumetric weight, so a light but bulky haul costs more than people expect. This is predictable and avoidable — what sets the shipping price covers it.
- Customs and VAT. Charged by your carrier on delivery, not by Kakobuy, and not reduced by any coupon. In the EU import VAT applies from the first euro and duty above €150.
- Time. Domestic delivery to the warehouse, processing, consolidation, the courier leg and customs all stack. The shipping estimate you were shown covers one of those five.
How to test it without trusting anyone
The sensible move with any agent is not to read reviews — it is to run a cheap experiment, because the whole model is designed to be checkable in stages:
- Register. It is free and commits you to nothing.
- Order one inexpensive item from one seller. You are buying information about the process, not the item.
- When it lands in the warehouse, look at the quality-check photos. This tells you whether the receiving and inspection side works.
- Ship it alone, on the cheapest line. Now you know the real timeline and whether your customs authority takes an interest, on a parcel small enough that being wrong costs very little.
That sequence costs the price of one cheap item and answers more than any number of reviews, including this page.
